One of the items that came up at yesterday's meeting was the very light grasp that most of us have on research methods - more so in the departments other than communication.
To state the obvious -- unconsidered or inappropriate methods seriously compromise the quality of research.
At this point there are about 4-5 of us who are just about getting started on our programs. Our need is not so much for quantitative vs qualitative, sampling techniques, analysis frameworks etc. It is more to understand problem formulation, types of research possibilities, research fallacies and paradoxes, limitations...
We agreed it would be a good idea to have some basic coursework in this area - with research scholars from all the departments attending. (It could just a few hours, with links to relevant reading material)
Dear faculty, how about it?
